SANTVANA NEWS

TESTIMONIES

Bro. Anthony Doss

My name is Anthony Doss and I belong to Kolar District, Karnataka. I was born in 1941. Since my childhood, encouraged by my parents & grandparents, I desired to become a priest. I joined the Indian Missionary Society (IMS) a catholic religious congregation on finishing my schooling. After 5 years I had to discontinue due to ill-health, though the superior of the houses and the counsel encouraged me to join the seminary in the South. Thus I remained a bachelor at home helping my parents and my siblings. All that time my heart’s desire was to lead a prayerful life in any religious house. I used to spend a lot of time both in the morning & evening, before the Blessed Sacrament interceding for this intention.

I came to know about Santvana team in Varanasi and I joined the team in 1996 February, when I was 55 years old. (At that time Santvana was only a retreat team and had not yet become a community). Joining the team was a great blessing for me. I found peace and joy and was able to grow deeper in my spiritual life. The main Charism of the team was and is ‘Prayer & Proclamation’ of the Word of God. I chose intercession as my ministry, so that I could remain with the Lord to pray for all those who are in need. This I consider as a great gift from God.

Most of my time is spent in the 24 hours adoration centre to pray for all people who are in need. People from different parts of the country as well as some people from other countries contact us with prayer requests. I experience the power of prayer to bring healing and grace of God to people who are afflicted in various ways. Many people call back to tell us of how God intervened in their life in a miraculous manner. In different ways they experience healing-some very quickly, others a bit slowly. Most of them who are from Delhi would come back personally to thank the Lord for his great love and mercy that he bestows on them. I would like to mention a few people’s experiences of the Lord’s intervention in their lives.

1. A girl during mid summer season came to me crying and showed me her legs which was infected with sores and caused her so much pain she was not able to walk. We prayed for her within 2to 3 days she was healed and she came back to thank the lord.

2. Another person named Baidyanath who was rearing buffaloes near the river Yamuna all of sudden developed acute stomach ache. He rushed to out adoration chapel threw himself on the floor before the Blessed Sacrament. We kept praying for him and after about half an hour he got up from there healed and went home. A few days later he came back to thank the Lord.

3. A lady named Parvathiamma suffered from pain in her intestine and often suffered from an upset stomach. She had lost control of her bowel muscles. We prayed for her prostrating before the Blessed Sacrament. She too joined us and prayed. As soon as she started praying she began rolling on the ground before the Blessed Sacrament. She continued to come for prayer daily, after a month she was totally cured. She came and gave thanks to the Lord

4. A few persons dejected in life and who wanted to end their lives had contacted us. Through the prayers and intercession they have received grace and courage to face their problems.

Many people and children from the locality of the Ashram call me ``Baba” which means father. (I am 70). They often come here to visit the prayer house and participate in the prayers. They bring all their burdens and problems to the Lord. They all pray with a lot of faith. Their faith builds up my faith. They experience joy, peace, happiness and blessing through our prayers.

Thus in the intercession ministry I really experience joy of praying for whole world. My health is not very good, yet I along with other members of the Community am able to bring consolation (Santvana) to many through prayer. I join the Psalmist to ask the Lord for this grace. “One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: to dwell in the LORD’S house all the days of my life, to gaze on the LORD’S beauty (Ps 27, 4-5). And again, “Blessed are those who dwell in thy house, ever singing thy praise! Blessed are the men whose strength is in thee, in whose hearts are the highways to Zion. As they go through the valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; the God of gods will be seen in Zion”( Ps 84, 4 – 7):
